EQUINE ASSESSMENT

I take a detailed history of the presenting problem, relevant medical and social history, then assess the horse through observation, gait assessment, range of movement and palpation. If I feel it adds value to the assessment, and is appropriate for the horse and handler, assessment may also include lunging and ridden work.
After this I develop a targeted treatment plan to address any issues that have been identified.
The effectiveness of treatment plans will be regularly reviewed both within and across several sessions.

EQUINE TREATMENT

I offer a range of treatment options including electrotherapy/muscle stimulation, soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and exercise prescription. These treatments aim to reduce pain and stiffness, restore normal movement and improve performance. I tailor my treatment techniques to suit the needs of your horse and will offer education, advice and exercise prescription to maintain and improve your horses physical health and overall well-being.

RIDER ASSESSMENT

The horse and rider combination is sometimes overlooked. As a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 15 years experience I am skilled in treating humans as well as horses. I offer rider assessment, both on and off the horse, and can tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs as a rider. I have studied Pilates to instructor level and can apply the Pilates principles to exercise programmes in order to help riders develop their core-strength and balance when in the saddle.

TREATMENT UNDER SEDATION

Treatment of horses under sedation is a technique that has been developed by experienced ACPAT Veterinary Physiotherapists and is supported by most vets. The technique is particularly beneficial for horses with stiff and painful necks, those who are very sore due to excessive muscle spasm or very nervous horses who do not tolerate standard physiotherapy treatment. The technique involves your vet being present and undertaking the sedation followed by the physiotherapy treatment. This is a good opportunity for both vets and physiotherapists to come together to assess and treat more complex cases. Please contact me for further details about this technique.
